The significance of green streets and front & rear urban gardens.

Our streets and roads and front and rear gardens can greatly assist our health and overall well being, and they can also become valuable havens for local wildlife. We often overlook the importance and significance of streets with trees, or front or rear gardens that warm the heart, and raise our spirits. This is in addition to all the personal & social benefits that can be gained by visits to local parks and green spaces .

This web site is designed to showcase and highlight the importance of our streets and front and rear gardens, particularly within inner city & urban areas.   For example, the residents of Kensington Road in St George, Bristol have enhanced their street , and have made it  more wildlife friendly. They campaigned to have the street trees installed, and the small front gardens have been planted up by the residents.

This has helped to raise everyone's spirits, and this in turn, assists our natural world and local urban wildlife.

Kensington Road was selected as a showcase garden at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show at the launch of the RHS ‘Greening Great Britain’ campaign in 2015. The show garden celebrated all our local community based work and action.

See the Kensington Road enhancements page on this web site by clicking on the tab on this Homepage.

Action for enhancing our local streets and front & rear gardens is becoming even more significant as some areas of the UK are currently seeing a reduction in funding to maintain and support local parks or public green spaces.

We hope that you or your community will also be inspired to help to make your street or front or rear garden more colourful and wildlife friendly, so that you and others and the natural world can also enjoy the benefits. Grenville Johnson is delighted to be appointed as a Wildlife Champion & local Advisor for Avon Wildlife Trust.
